A sought-after location close to the airport, motorways, rail, buses and Auckland’s CBD.
Station205 – at 205 Station Road, Penrose – is a strategically located industrial estate close to key transport networks in Auckland. Penrose was originally developed for its proximity to the CBD, access to Great South Road and the Southern Motorway. The CBD is within a 10-minute drive (off peak) and the Southern Motorway is a few minutes from the site via the Penrose interchange. As a distribution centre, it is as good as it gets, evidenced by Freightways being located right next door.
The 2.5-hectare estate features a wide variety of warehouses, office spaces and storage yards. Current tenants include product companies, manufacturing and warehousing across a range of industries. Other businesses in the area include Winstones, Hardies and Laminex.

History of the site
205 Station Road has been owned by the Bates family since Arthur (Snow) Bates purchased a parcel of bare land back in 1953. Snow built the first factory for his new spray-painting business and, as adjoining properties became available, he bought them to expand and grow his business. With his main panel supplier (New Zealand Forest Products) just down the road, it was a strategic location back then as much as it is today.
Snow’s family carry on the business to this day and are the anchor tenant on the site. Renamed Bates Surface Solutions in 2015, they are New Zealand’s largest coatings applicators for building panel products, using clean and odourless UV-curing technology. New technology has transformed the business and today it needs a much smaller footprint to operate, so the warehouse and office spaces are being put to new uses by new tenants.
Future development
The new master plan for Station205 is based on best-practice urban design, reflecting the growing commercial importance and desirability of Penrose and Station Road.
